Lucille Schalk
1920 - 2014Lucille Renata Schalk, age 93 of Belknap Township,
died Friday, May 9, 2014, at her home.
She was born on August 13, 1920,
to Edgar and Eleanor (Paull) Rambadt
in the same home in which she died
She was a lifelong member of St. Michael Lutheran Church where she
was confirmed in 1934 and served faithfully on the Ladies Aid and
Women’s Missionary League for 70 years. She married Allen Schalk on
August 26, 1939.
Lucille was an avid gardener and cook, and prepared countless hearty
meals for farm employees. She took great pride in maintaining her yard
and gardens and continued to mow her large lawn until age 90, Nearly
every family member has a crocheted afghan to treasure. She loved to
play spitzer and to provide wonderful baked treats for her guests. Her
strong and steadfast faith in God carried her through life’s joys and
challenges,
She is survived by:
four children, Carlen (Dan) Ostrom of Freeland,
Ruth (Jack) Myers of Rogers City,
Lona Tan (Erroll Stephenson) of Glendale, Arizona,
and Paul (Mary) of Rogers City;
eleven grandchildren, Jeffrey (Lori) Grasso, Jon (Jennifer) Grasso,
Jay (Amy) Grasso, Michael Myers,
Jim (Karen) Myers, Andy (Shana) Myers,
Amy (Bill) Harrington, Katie (Eric) Brenton,
Jeremy (Katie) Tan, Brett (Miranda) Schalk and
Justin (Lindsey) Schalk;
thirteen great-grandchildren; and
one sister, Beatrice Brietzke Schalk of Hawks.
She will be missed by many family and friends whom she touched with
her kindness.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband and one great-grandson,
Lucas Tan.
Friends and family may visit at Beck Funeral Home in Rogers City on
Thursday, May 15, from 2:00 PM until 8:00 with a prayer service at 7:00,
Visitation will continue at St. Michael Lutheran Church at 1OAM on
Friday where the funeral service will begin at 11.
Internment will be at the church cemetery.
Memorials may be made to St. Michael Scholarship fund, Choir, or
General Fund, or Hospice of the Sunrise Shore.
