Alphonse Gapczynski

1932 - 2015

Alphonse E. Gapezynski age 83 of Rogers City
passed away February 13, 2015 at St. Mary’s Hospital
in Saginaw.

He was born February 2, 1932 in Rogers City
to Cash and Jennie (Styma) Gapezynski,

Al graduated from Rogers City High School in 1951, He served in the
United States Army from 1952 through 1954. Mr. Gapezynski was
co-owner of American Gas Products, Cash’s Oxygen and Welding Supply
and Cash’s Automotive in Rogers City. Opening in 1958, the Gapezynski
Brothers have the oldest gas supply business in northern Michigan.

Al enjoyed reading, especially history books of all kinds. He was known
to say that he would rather read a book about a place than to actually
visit or vacation there.

Mr. Gapezynski is survived by:
his brother, Joseph of Rogers City;
2 nephews, Gregory (Cathy) of Columbia, South Carolina and
Jeffrey (Christine) of Clinton Township;
1 niece, Ann Putnam of Keller, Texas;
6 great nieces and nephews, Jason (Selina), Aaron, Lacy (Jim) Otteman,
Jill (Mark) Nelson, Andrew Putnam
and Jenny Putnam;
5 great-great nieces and nephews, Taylor, Jaymes, Lauren, and Leo Otteman
and Tyler Nelson.

He was preceded in death by
his parents, Cash and Jennie;
brother and sister-in-law, Leo and Alice

Friends may visit at the Beck Funeral Home on Wednesday from 3:00 until
8:00 p.m. with rosary at 6:30. Visitation will resume on Thursday at
St. Ignatius Catholic Church from 9:00 a.m. until time of Mass at
10:00 a.m. with Fr. Sylvestre Obwaka officiating.

Rogers City VFW Post 607 will accord military honors following Mass.

Interment will take place at Mt. Calvary Catholic Cemetery.

Memorials may be given to St. Ignatius Catholic School
in memory of Alphonse Gapezynski.
