Alvis Wirgau
1927 - 2016Alvis Paul “Joe” Wirgau age 88 of Rogers City
passed away March 27, 2016 during his brief stay at
Rogers City Tendercare.
He was born October 9, 1927 in Belknap Township
to Paul and Florence (Bredow) Wirgau.
Alvis graduated from Rogers City High School in 1946. He served in the
United States Army and was stationed in the Philippines. On April 14,
1956, he married Norma Brege at St. John Lutheran Church, He retired
from the Calcite Plant in 1987, Mr. Wirgau enjoyed playing cards,
hunting, fishing and spending time with his children and grandchildren.
Joe is survived by:
his wife, Norma;
son, Bob (Susan) of Petoskey;
3 daughters, Mary (Ronald) Modrzynski of Piney Flats, Tennessee,
Sue (Steve) Kandal of Rogers City and
Missie (Mark) Karsten of Rogers City;
10 grandchildren, Mindy Wirgau, B,J. Wirgau, Brian (Chelle) Modrzynski,
Erik (Jessica) Modrzynski, Jacob (Rita) Modrzynski,
Joshua Kandal, Ashley Kandal, Jessie Muller,
Bret Karsten and Chad Karsten;
8 great grandchildren, Caleb Karsten, Elise Muller, Dreyden Kandal,
Aniya Kandal, Nathan Kandal, Addison Modrzynski,
Raegan Modrzynski and Auryn Williams;
1 brother, Willis Wirgau.
He was preceded in death by:
his parents; Paul and Florence;
3 brothers, Wilmer, Merlin and Norval;
1 sister, Mildred Newhouse.
Friends may visit at the Beck Funeral Home on Tuesday (March 29th) from
4:00 until 8:00 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m, Visitation will
resume at Peace Lutheran Church on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m.
through time of funeral at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor J. Derek Riddle
officiating. Rogers City VFW will offer a military tribute at the
conclusion of church services.

in Need Fund, c/o Rogers City High School, 1033 West Huron Av.,
Rogers City, Michigan 49779 or Peace Lutheran Church
in memory of Alvis Wirgau.
