Betty Lautner
1924 - 2016Betty J. Lautner age 91 of Rust Township
passed away at home on March 21, 2016.
She was born April 11, 1924 on the family farm in Linwood
to Arnold and Louisa (Wurm) Popp.
On February 15, 1941 she married Frederick M. Lautner in her family’s
home in Linwood, She and Fred lived in Minden City until 1946 when
they moved to Forestville to raise their family and where she was the
village clerk for many years, Betty was a housewife until the 1960’s
when she went to work at Deckerville Die Form as a machine operator.
Mrs. Lautner was active with 4-H during the 60s, She also worked as a
relief mail clerk at the Forestville Post Office until 1973 when she moved
to Atlanta with her husband and began working at the Lachine Post Office.
She became Post Master at the Heron Post Office in the early 1980’s,
retiring in 1989 due to her husband’s ill health. In 1972 at the age of 48
she earned her high school diploma, She was on the Minden City Ladies
Bowling League for many years earning both local and state awards for
her bowling skills. She loved to work crossword puzzles in the papers,
and also enjoyed gardening, count cross stitching and in later years,
weaving rag rugs.
Mrs. Lautner was a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church in Hillman
and resided with her daughter since 1995.
Betty is survived by:
her daughter, Peggy Dutcher,
3 sons, David, Paul and Richard (Mary Lynn);
6 grandchildren, Allen (Bridget) Dutcher, Douglas Dutcher,
Lynnette (Brian) Eleey, Todd (Jill) Lautner,
Laura (Jeremy) Bloomquist, David (Donna) Lautner;
7 great grandchildren, Robert and Charmaine Freitas,
Ashlie and Joshua Dutcher,
Devan and Grace Eleey and Remington Lautner;
2 great-great grandchildren, Mathew and Jaylen;
daughter-in-law, Frances Lautner
She was preceded in death by:
her husband Frederick on July 31, 1990;
son, Frank Lautner in 2015;
son-in-law, John Dutcher in 1995;
granddaughter, Cheryl Freitas in 2006,
brothers, Earl, Bill, Ralph, Henry, Roy and Raymond;
sisters, Henrietta, Esther and Genevieve.
Friends may visit at St. Augustine Catholic Church on Sunday from
5:00 until 8:00 p.m. where the rosary will be recited at 6:30. Visitation
will continue at church on Monday from 10:00 a.m. until time of Mass
at 11:00 a.m. with Fr. Michael Conner officiating.
Interment will take place at Freiburg Catholic Church,
Memorials may be given to the family discretionary fund,
