Birdie Pardike

1919 - 2012

Birdie Mae Pardike age 93 of Rogers City
passed away Monday, October 15, 2012 at her home.

The daughter of George and Alice Reliance (Ackermann) Blass,
she was born May 30, 1919 in Baldwin, Michigan.

Her mother and father having passed away by the time she was 13 years old,
her brother brought her to Rogers City where she attended Rogers City High School.
She married Merlin Pardike on December 25, 1938 in Rogers City. In 1945, she and
Merlin purchased and operated the Pardike General Store in Hawks until it was
destroyed by fire on November 7, 1959. After they moved to Rogers City, she
worked at the hospital for a couple of years and in 1963 she started working at
the Presque Isle County Clerk’s office as Deputy Clerk for 8 years until being
appointed as County Clerk in 1972 and served in that capacity for one year.

She and Merlin purchased the Rainbow bar in Rogers City in the 1960’s where they
were instrumental in forming the Rogers City Pool League. Birdie Mae was a
member of the women’s pool league for many years up to and including this year
and was an excellent player. She was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Hawks
and a member of the Rogers City VFW Post 607 Ladies Auxiliary where she had
been an office holder for many years, including president of the auxiliary.

Mrs, Pardike is survived by:
four sons, James (Liz) of Toledo, Merlin Jr. (Janis Blohm) of Tower,
Allen (Gail) of Millersburg, and John (Valerie) of Rogers City;
13 grandchildren;
26 great grandchildren;
7 great-great grandchildren;
several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law:
numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by:
her mother in 1922;
father in 1934;
husband in 2006;
son, Carl in 2012;
great granddaughter, Allison Wilcox;
brothers, George Blass and his wife Martha,
James Blass;
sisters, Caroline Blass and Katherine Blass;
step brothers, Volney (Ora) Blass and Kenneth (Marie) Blass.

Friends may visit Beck Funeral Home Friday from 3:00 until 8:00 p.m. with
Ladies Auxiliary Service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will continue at the Funcral Home
on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. through time of funeral at 11:00 a.m.

Burial will take place at Riverside Cemetery.

In licu of flowers memorials may be given to Faith Lutheran Church in Hawks,
Rogers City VF W Post 607 Ladies Auxiliary, Hospice of the Sunrise Shore,
or a charity of your choice.
