Blanche Donakowski

Blanche Mary Donakowski, 98, of Alpena passed away May 25, 2024 at Mid-Michigan Alpena Hospital.

Blanche was born in Alpena on December 17, 1925 to Anthony and Celia (Kline) Donakowski.

She attended St. Mary Catholic School and at the age of 16, she joined the Sisters of St. Francis of Mary Immaculate, in Joliet, Illinois where
she finished her high school education. After 30 years of ministry as a Franciscan sister, Blanche returned home to care for her aging parents. After their passing, Blanche attended Central Michigan University where she received a bachelor’s degree in elementary education. In addition to substitute teaching in North East Michigan, Blanche was a sales person for World Book Encyclopedia, and Avon. In her later years, Blanche enjoyed playing bingo, doing crafts and visiting with family and friends.

Blanche is survived by her sister-in-law, Shirley (Clarence) Donakowski and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, Edward, Clarence (Sony), and Otto; and one sister, Gladys (Arthur) Kandow.

In honor of her wishes, a private memorial service will be held at a later date.

Contributions in memory of Blanche may be directed to Medilodge of Alpena Activity Department or donor’s personal choice.
