Bruce Blanchard
1938 - 2014Bruce Lavon Blanchard, 75 of Afton,
passed away Monday, January 13, 2014 at his home,
surrounded by his four daughters.
His funeral was held Friday, January 17th at the Indian River
United Methodist Church with Chaplain Dianne Myers officiating.
Bruce was born February 8, 1938 in Flint, Michigan
to Audley Roy and Leona Mae (Keeler) Blanchard.
He moved to Indian River in 1967 with his family and resided in Afton
since 1969, He moved around to many places for work, but always came
back to the old school house, his home base. Bruce worked at Tube Fab
of Afton, and retired after 18 years. He worked as a heavy equipment
operator for many years. Bruce is an honored veteran of two years in
the United States Army, an active member in the masons, and the FOE.
Upon retiring Bruce enjoyed playing video games, playing the guitar,
golfing with his wife, boating with the family, fishing, and numerous
family cookouts, for no reason,
Bruce is survived by:
three brothers: Doug, Mike and Clayton,
four daughters: Debra Vass, Jacqueline Penfold, Audrey Main, and
Patricia Curry,
13 grandchildren and
6 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Leona Blanchard, and
his lovely wife of 54 years, Shirley Blanchard.
There will be a combined service in the spring to lay Bruce and Shirley
to rest at Oakhill Cemetery, date to be announced.
