Calvin Gouine

Calvin Earl Gouine age 73 of Cheboygan passed away peacefully at home on August 8, 2020.

He was born April 29, 1947 in Cheboygan to Roland and Mary (Cross) Gouine.

Cal graduated from Cheboygan Catholic High School then went on to Michigan Tech where he earned a bachelor’s degree in Business. Following graduation, he founded Cal Gouine Construction Company and married Sharyn Friday at St. Charles Catholic Church in Cheboygan. He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He returned home to his wife and son Chad who was born while he was serving.

On July 9, 2019 he married Sharon Fettig at home in Inverness Township. Cal was a county commissioner representing Inverness and Mullett Townships. He liked hunting, fishing, shooting skeet and playing pool. He retired in 2017 and enjoyed spending time with family.

Cal is survived by his wife, Sharon; two sons, Chad (Sharon Barthelman) Gouine of Williamson, South Carolina and Kevin (Christine) Gouine of Cheboygan; two step-daughters, Talenna (Tigger) Calhoun of Petoskey and Melissa Riley of Cheboygan; eight grandchildren; Alisha, Sarah, Hailey, Chad, Jacob, Mackenzie, Ryan and Robert; one great granddaughter, Skylar; and one sister, Sharon (Larry) Groff.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Roland and Mary; granddaughter, Hailey Hallenbeck.

Friends may visit at St. Mary – St. Charles Catholic Church on Thursday, August 13 th from 9:00 a.m. through time of his Mass at 10:00 a.m. with Fr. Duane Wachowiak officiating. Cal’s Mass will be live streamed on the CPR Parish Facebook page.

Military honors will be accorded outside of church immediately following Mass.

Memorials may be given to Bishop Baraga Catholic School’s storm renovation project.
