Catherine Mayes – Matthews

Catherine Mayes – Matthews age 49 of Lehigh Acres, Florida
passed away July 24, 2010 at Hope Hospice of Lehigh Acres

She was born October 20, 1960 in Rogers City
to Harry and Betty (Micketti) Mayes

A graduate of RCHS Class of ’78, Cathy attended Davenport College, where she
earned her business degree & moved to Philadelphia where she met and married her
husband of 24 years. She gave up her carcer to be a full time mom, adopting the
couple’s three children from Eastern Europe. She was involved with the start-up of
an agency in Ohio that has placed dozens of kids in homes throughout the Midwest
and helped several other couples including one local woman adopt as well.
Cathy & Jeff returned to Rogers City in 1995 when the children were of school age
and spent the next 10 years working with children. She gave her time to Scouting,
Little League, Football, & Wrestling. She spent 7 years in PTO with several as
President. She was a member of the Daughters of Isabella and was awarded
Volunteer of the Year by the Zontas. Cathy spent the last 5 years battling diabetes,
her last in Florida. She endured many surgeries & hospitalizations, but never gave up.
She exemplified strength & self sacrifice and will be missed by her family and many
friends.

Cathy is survived by:
husband, Jeffrey;
daughter, Gina;
sons, Alex and Adam;
sisters, Jean (Randy) Wirgau and Patti Flanagan of Rogers City;
brother, John Mayes of Royal Oak;
several nieces and nephews

Friends may visit at the Beck Funeral Home on Saturday, July 31st from 9:30 a.m.
through time of memorial services at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Waldemar Gies
officiating.

Inurnment will take place in Memorial Park Cemetery

Memorials may be given to Hope Hospice or Hospice of Michigan in memory of
Catherine Mayes – Matthews.
