Charles Hendries

1924 - 2016

Charles W. Hendries, 92, of Presque Isle,
passed away peacefully, surrounded by family at home
on Thursday, Nov, 3, 2016.

Charles was born on Sept. 29, 1924, in Royal Oak, Mich.,
the son of Tilda (Jensen) and Erwin Hendries,

Charles was a graduate of Lawrence Institute of Technology. He served as
a radar operator on an aircraft carrier escort in the U.S. Navy from
1943-1946 during World War II, He was awarded four medals:

World War II Victory Medal, American Theatre Medal, Asiatic-Pacific
Theatre Medal and Good Conduct Medal. On July 14, 1950, he married
the love of his life, Martha Gornall, Charles retired from Michigan Bell
Telephone Company, after 33 years as a procurement manager. He was a
member of the VF W, Grand Lake Men’s Club and The Round Robin of
Redford, MI (WWII servicemen from Redford who gathered annually for
nearly 70 years), He enjoyed square dancing, bowling and various
community activities. Mostly he enjoyed being around his family.

Charles is survived by:
his wife of 66 years, Martha;
his children, Paul (Carol), Caryn (Michael) Beeson,
Claudia Hendries-Burns, Cynthia (Osama) Judeh,
Scott (Amy);
grandchildren, Jacqueline (Charles) Chretien, Kara,
Stephanie (David) Rossow, Kristin Beeson,
Kelsey and Cristina Burns, Chelsea (Mark) Dietrich,
Chadwick Kresky, Ian, Sarah (Andrew) Harrington, and
Osama Jr. Judeh;
eight great-grandchildren;
brother, Ronald of Costa Mesa, Calif.; and
brother-in-law, Victor Joseph (Joyce) Gornall; and
six nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be Monday, November 7th from 12 noon until service at
1 p.m. with Reverends Greg and Karen Zurakowski officiating at the
Grand Lake Community Chapel in Presque Isle, with military honors
accorded by Posen VFW Post 7804.

Interment will follow at the Presque Isle Township Cemetery.
