Chet served in the Air Force as an airlpane and engine mechanic and was honorably
discharged in 1950. He attended seminary for a short while following his discharge
from the service. He was employed as a plumber for several years before working at
Calcite Limestone in Rogers City, Michigan until his retirement. His work ranged
from manning the coal furnaces on Great Lakes ships to operating an atomic
absorption instrument in the laboratory. He was mechanically inclined and very
thorough in every thing he did. Chet was loved by many. He made friends easily and
loved telling jokes and stories. Children of all ages would flock to him to hear his
many tales…also for some Tootsie Rolls! He was a very giving and gracious man.
One of his favorite things to share with friends and family was citrus fruit, which he
would haul up from Florida for many years. He enjoyed picking wild blueberries
and playing cribbage with his Aunt Elna. Chet truly derived happiness by helping
others…and from eating fun-size Milky Way candy bars and Peg’s homemade

lemon meringue pie! He had a steadfast faith in the Lord and shared the Good News
with all,
