Chester Szymanski
1943 - 2014Chester “Chet” Szymanski age 71 of Rogers City
passed away peacefully at Rogers City Tendercare
on December 2, 2014 following a short illness.
He was born November 9, 1943 in Rogers City
to Chester and Martha (Siecinski) Szymanski.
Chet attended St. Ignatius Catholic School then went on to graduate from
Rogers City High School in 1961. He earned a Bachelor’s Degree in
accounting at Ferris State College in 1966. His career began as a senior
accountant with the City of Detroit. Eventually he accepted a position as
an auditor with the U.S. Department of Agriculture in New York City.
While in New York City, Chet witnessed the collapsing of the World Trade
Center on 9/11, The following year he retired and returned to his
hometown of Rogers City, Chet enjoyed being back in Northern Michigan
where he spent time at Thompson’s Harbor State Park with his dog, and
loved being near the lakes. Also, being an avid reader, he made daily trips
to the local libraries. Chet was a member of St. Ignatius Catholic Church.
Mr. Szymanski is survived by:
2 brothers, David (Karen) of Long Lake and Kenny of Rogers City;
3 sisters, Linda (Jim) DeWyre of Alpena, Cynthia of Rogers City, and
Marcia (Richard) Wirgau of Alpena;
9 nieces and nephews and 18 great nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Chester and Martha.
Friends may visit at the Beck Funeral Home on Friday from 3:00 until
8:00 p.m. with rosary at 6:30 followed by the parish wake service at
7:00 p.m. Visitation will continue at the funeral home on Saturday from
9:00 until 9:30 a.m, Fr. Sylvestre Obwaka will celebrate Mass of
Resurrection at St. Ignatius Catholic Church on Saturday at 10:00 a.m.
Interment will take place at Mt. Calvary Catholic Cemetery,
Memorials may be given to St. Ignatius Catholic School
in memory of Chester Szymanski
