Cynthia Chanavat

1931 - 2020

On Dec. 10, 2020, Cynthia “Anne” Chanavat of Pellston, MI, passed away at home surrounded by her loved ones, four days after celebrating her 89th birthday.

Anne was born in Jackson on December 6, 1931 to Clarence and Jane (Neilson) Larkey.

She was the eldest of three children. She attended Jackson High School and Jackson Community College. Anne had three sons, the first two born in Amarillo, TX and the youngest in Jackson. In 1968, she married the love of her life, Jack Chanavat and relocated to Hidden Hamlet in Harbor Springs. She became an avid Nub’s Nob skier and had many great stories of the fun times with her friends in “the Hamlet”. Anne loved sailing with Jack and the boys. She was a skilled painter and bridge player as well as a constant patron at the local library. Civil war history was a particular passion as were the biographies of world leaders. Anne worked in a variety of positions over the years, but her favorite was when she managed Ester Kirk’s, a women’s clothing boutique in Harbor Springs in the 1980’s.

She is survived by her sister, Suzanne Swanson of Phoenix, AZ; her children, Mark, Chris, and Michael (Susan) Cavender; seven grandchildren; six great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Marilyn Larkey and three nieces.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jack Chanavat; brother, Dr. Paul E. Larkey; and nephew, Chip Larkey.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to her favorite charity, St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
