1936 - 2022

Daniel L. Rivard of Grand Lake and Northville, Michigan died on September 11, 2022 after being a resident at Turning Brook in Alpena for the past year.

Dan was the only child born to Louis and Margaret (Ricken) Rivard on December 23, 1936 in Detroit.

Dan was a graduate of Denby High school class of 1955 where he was a championship swimmer. In the fall of the same year, he was accepted into Michigan Tech University and moved to Houghton. He graduated from Tech in 1959 with a BS in mechanical engineering. His education took him to Ford Motor Company in Dearborn. He worked in several aspects of Ford including; vehicle development, light truck, and concept to customer. After 35 years of employment, he retired only then to be asked to run Ford’s special vehicle operations which included the racing programs of NASCAR, Indy Car, and Formula 1. Dan got to live out his dream of racing cars with this job. As an alumnus of Tech, Governor James Blanchard appointed Dan to MTU’s Board of Control where he served as Charmain, he was elected into the Academy of Mechanical Engineering and Engineering Mechanics, and received an honorary PhD in 2000.

Dan is survived by his wife of 63 years Carol; daughter, Mary Kay (Bobby) Doré of Breckenridge, CO; and son John (Dan Ferrucci) Rivard of Washington D.C.

Beck Funeral of Rogers City is in charge of arrangements and there will be no public service.

His wife Carol, wishes to thank family and friends for their support and for the love and kindness of
the staff at Turning Brook.
