Darlene Frances McDonald May age 75 of Cheboygan passed away May 31, 2021 at 6:00 a.m. in her home.

Darlene “Dee”, daughter of J. Oliver and E. Lucille (Lahaie) Provo, was born May 5, 1946 in Cheboygan.

She was born into a large French Catholic family. Her siblings were Leonard Provo (deceased), Shirly (Provo) (Portman) Sutherland (deceased), Ronald Provo, Alan Provo, Geraldine Provo, Michael Provo, and James Provo (deceased).

Darlene attended Catholic school and married Eddie McDonald in 1964 then moved to Grand Rapids. Following the death of Eddie in 1966, she moved back to Cheboygan and married Ronnie May. Darlene was a devoted wife and mother. She worked a variety of jobs: wedding cakes, Tupperware, crafts, catering, Ramada Inn, Big Boy, health care, hospice, and many other jobs before retiring. Darlene’s life was one of service. She worked at Community Memorial Hospital and assisted with over 300 births. She loved to volunteer her time. Some of the organizations include: Daughters of Isabella, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Explorers, Relay for Life, Red Hatters, Sedums Garden Club and countless other organizations. If ever someone was in need, Darlene was there to meet it.

Darlene is survived by her husband, Ronnie; her children: Tammy (Michael) McDonald Raymus, Lonnie (Millicent Benson) McDonald, Mame (Michael) May LeGate, and Dominic May; grandchildren: James (Carlto) Raymus, Jennifer (Jake) Raymus Johnston, Jeremey (Samatha) Raymus, Jordan Raymus, Jake Williams, Issac Yokom-McDonald, Emma Yokum-McDonald, Jessica Hailey, David Hailey, Jonathan Hailey, Logan LeGate, Anastasia LeGate, Benjamin LeGate, Aayla LeGate, Durin LeGate, Carley Johnson, Oliver May, Joy Crispin, and Johng Crispin; and great grandchildren: Mikayla Raymus, Arkin Crispin, Ross Crispin, Jayden Johnston, Jayla Johnston, Jaysik Johnston, and Landon Raymus.

Friends may gather at 11 a.m. on Friday, June 4th at Calvary Catholic Cemetery where the rosary will be recited at her graveside service. Dinner and fellowship will follow at the Inverness Township Hall, 734 West VFW Road from 12:30-4:00 p.m.

Memorials may be given to the May family for a charity to be selected at a later date.
