David Erickson

1941 - 2021

David Michael Erickson age 80 of Rogers City passed away at Orchard Manor on October 25, 2021.

He was born January 7, 1941 in Detroit.

David graduated from Rogers City High School in 1959. Following graduation, he began his sailing career as a chef on the Great Lakes aboard the Cedarville. After surviving the sinking of the Cedarville on May 7, 1965 he went to work at the UAW as their chef. David was instrumental in creating and served as the Director for the Great Lakes Lore Maritime Museum in Rogers City. David enjoyed spending time at the museum talking with everyone who came in.

He is survived by his wife, Sally; daughter, Tammy; four grandchildren, Derrick, Charles, Jeremy and Angela; several great grandchildren; two brothers, Edmund (Esther) and Ralph (Marge); step-children, Jeanette, John (Sharon) and Joseph (Shellie); step-grandchildren, Emily, Lindsey and Andrew and a step-great granddaughter, Kaylee.

David was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Myrtle; son, Kevin (Conni); and a granddaughter, Sarah.

Friends may visit at the Beck Funeral Home on Thursday, October 28th from 1 p.m. through time of his memorial service at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Dale DuVerney officiating.

Inurnment will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.

Memorials may be given to the Great Lakes Lore Maritime Museum in memory of David Erickson.
