David Munger
1934 - 2015David Munger 81, of Cross Village
passed on July 2, 2015 at his home.
Dave graduated from Pellston High School in 1952, After two years at
Lake Superior State University (called SooTech at the time) he enlisted
in the U. 8S. Army and was stationed in Germany with the Army Security
Agency. This was an exciting three years in his life and he remains
friends with the surviving members in his unit.
Dave received his B. A. degree at Olivet College and his M.A, at Michigan
State University, Dave married Anne Buege in Midland on May 26, 1962,
53 years ago.
He had a long career in education, In 1963 he became director of housing
at Albion College. In 1966 he moved to Minnesota where he was Dean of
Men at St. Cloud State University. It was a challenging time on college
campuses. Veterans were returning from Vietnam needing services and
Students for a Democratic Society (SDS) were demonstrating their unrest,
In 1976 Dave returned to Michigan to begin his dream job as Dean of
Students at north Central Michigan College where he remained until his
retirement in 1997,
Dave was very civic minded. Fifty years ago, he and his wife and another
couple reopened the little stone church (Redpath) in Cross Village which
thrives to this day, Dave served on the Emmet County Zoning and
Planning Board for several years. Dave was a trustee and then Supervisor
of Cross Village Township for twenty years, resigning when he was
diagnosed with brain cancer – glioblastoma.
He was a 16 year survivor of this terrible disease with an average five
year survival rate of only three percent. He fought a valiant battle with
the help of his loving wife Anne,
Dave is survived by his wife Anne as well as daughters Laura (Ernie)
Delgado of Kennesaw, Georgia and Cathy (Jim) Harmon of Saline, Mi.
He has five grandchildren: Dave and Sarah Delgado, Heather, Holly and
Matt Harmon, He is also survived by his sister Marilynn Sollner of
Saginaw and many nicces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Ellen Edwards.
There will be no service at this time. A celebration of Life will be held at
