David Sherman

1954 - 2026

December 13, 1954 – April 5, 2026

David N. Sherman, known to all as “Dave” of Cheboygan, Michigan passed away peacefully at his home on Easter Sunday, April 5, 2026, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was surrounded by the love of his family and close friends.

Dave was born on December 13, 1954, in Dearborn, Michigan, to David and Vivian (Hanson) Sherman, who preceded him in death.

Dave’s career started with Roush Racing with the research and development team. He later made his home in Cheboygan, where he became a well-known and respected member of the community.

A dedicated and hardworking man, Dave owned and operated Dave’s Auto repair for over 30 years. Through his work, he built not only a successful business, but lasting relationships with those who trusted him and called him a friend. He will be greatly missed.

Dave had a passion for life and many interests. Among one of his proudest accomplishments was building a 1969 Camaro, earning his private pilot’s license, and purchasing a plane with his dear friend Joel Ross. He was always happiest when working with his hands, learning something new, or sharing those experiences with others.

He will be remembered as a loyal friend, a mentor to many, and someone who was always willing to lend a helping hand. A man who could fix anything and a passion to make it go faster! Dave also recently celebrated 35 years of sobriety, a milestone he held close to his heart alongside his cherished AA community.

Dave is survived by his loving wife Chris of 36 years. His children, David (Olathe), Michelle (Jay), Ryan (Jessi) and Eric; and his beloved grandchildren, Leland, Chloe, Livia, Paige, Savanah, Benjamin, Daniel and Nolan. He also leaves behind his sister Nancy, numerous nieces and nephews and his loyal golden lab Ryleigh.

He was preceded in death by his sister-in-law Debi NcNeil, two weeks prior.

Honoring his wishes, cremation has taken place. His ashes will be laid to rest alongside his father in Houghton, Michigan.

Those wishing to make a memorial donation may do so to the Cheboygan County Humane Society in Dave’s honor.
