Delmar Hansen

Delmar Lawrence Hansen age 86 of Cheboygan passed away December 9, 2020 at McLaren Northern Michigan Hospital in Petoskey from Covid.

He was born March 15, 1934 in Leer, Michigan to Lawrence and Geneva (Hanson) Hansen.

After graduating in 1962 from Alpena High School, he went to work at the shale quarry in Alpena. In the fall of the following year he moved to Cheboygan, began his young family and went to work for his parents at the Cheboygan Candy Company as a salesperson. His parents sold the building to Don McPhee of McPhee Motors and Del stayed with the building selling new and used cars. McPhee later sold the business to Wheeler Motors and Del remained. He was a well-respected salesperson, taking pride in his customer service and had many repeat customers over the years. He retired in 1998.

At an early age, Del began fostering an interest in collecting and restoring antique and classic automobiles and tractors. His goal was to complete one restoration project a year. When he wasn’t tinkering in the garage he enjoyed caring for his two horses, Norwegian Fjords named Inga and Rona. He enjoyed watching the Tigers, visiting Mackinac Island and his Norwegian heritage.

He is survived by his wife, Donna; seven children, Patti Hansen, David (Bonnie) Hansen, Kay (Daryl) Lafrinere, Karen (Dave) Robydek, and Julie (Tim) Cramer; Ronald (Pam) Wixson and Janet (Don) Ramsay; many grandchildren; Jodie (Jason) Borowicz, Derrick (Cassie) Gahn, Kristin (Tony) Sesti, David Hansen, Kaylin (Chase) Caldwell, Tammy (Dave) Lafrinere, Kara (Dave) Ingalsbe, James (Lindsay) Lafrinere, Kyle (Katlyn) Lafrinere, David (Tracy) Robydek, Grant Robydek, KeliSue (Jeff) Drews, Brtittany (Russ) Skuse, Brandon (Sydney) Cramer: Emily (Damian) Ramsay, Kamryn Ramsay and 26 great grandchildren.

Beck Funeral Home is in care of cremation arrangements. A memorial service will be announced at a later date.

Memorials may be given to St. Thomas Lutheran Church food pantry or the TLC program at St. Thomas.
