Donald Matuszewski
1927 - 2011Donald J. Matuszewski age 83 of Rogers City
passed away May 2, 2011 at Tendercare Health Center
in Rogers City
He was born November 15, 1927 in Hawks
to Vincent and Frances (Buza) Matuszewski
Don served in the United States Army Air Force and was stationed in Greenland
during World War II. He worked for 38 years at United States Steel’s Calcite Plant,
retiring in 1986 as a locomotive engineer. On February 9, 1950 he married
Donna Carter at St. Dominic Catholic Church in Metz. Don enjoyed hunting,
woodworking, biking, baseball, cross country skiing, playing spitzer, and
meticulously caring for his yard and flower gardens.
Mr. Matuszewski was a member of St. Ignatius Catholic Church, a 3rd degree
member of the Knights of Columbus, and a member of the Rogers City
Servicemen’s Club.
He is survived by:
wife, Donna;
3 daughters, Joan Herrick of Alpena, Janis (Paul) Smolinski of Rogers City, and
Barbara Robertson of Au Gres,
5 grandchildren, Amy Altman, Dennis Smolinski, Mike Altman, Ryan Herrick, and
Charles Smolinski;
1 brother, Joseph Matuszewski;
1 sister, Rita (John) Kleiber.
Don was preceded in death by:
parents, Vincent, September 5, 1970;
Frances, January 7, 1984;
brother, Jerome, October 16, 1944;
twin brother, Eugene, May 25, 1977;
son-in-law, Dennis Dean Skiera, March 27, 1978
Friends may visit at the Beck Funeral Home on Wednesday from 3:00 until 8:00 p.m.
where Sr. Rita Epple will conduct the parish prayer service at 7:00 p.m.. There will
be no viewing day of mass. Fr. Arthur Duchnowicz will celebrate his mass of
resurrection at St, Ignatius Catholic Church on Thursday at 10;00 a.m..
Rogers City VFW will offer a military tribute following mass.
Interment will take place at Mt. Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to St. Ignatius Catholic School,
St. Dominic Catholic Church, Hospice of the Sunrise Shore or a charity of
your choice in memory of Don Matuszewski.
