Edward Kania, Sr.

1926 - 2011

Edward J. Kania Sr. age 85 of Metz
passed away September 9, 2011 at home

He was born February 9, 1926 in Metz
to Felix and Josephine (Bamnista) Kania

Ed served in the United States Army during World War II and fought in the
Battle of the Bulge. On June 2, 1951 he married Alice Centala at
St. Dominic Catholic Church. At age 57 he retired from MLO – Calcite Plant.
Mr. Kania was a member of the 3rd Degree Knights of Columbus,
St. Dominic Catholic Church, and a member of Rogers City VF W Post 607.
Ed loved spending time with his family, his second love was carpentry.
Every Sunday following mass, the day was spent relaxing with family and playing
his accordion.

He is survived by:
wife, Alice;
6 children, Deborah Kania of Anchorage, Alaska, Nancy (Daniel) Kandow of Posen,
Edward Kania Jr. of Hawks, Duane Kania of Rogers City,
Marcel (Vija) Kania of Anchorage, Alaska, and
Jessica (Ray) Claus of Hawks;
13 grandchildren, Chandi (Rob) Cameron, Rhondi (Joseph) Budnik,
Shaina (Bobby) McConnell III, Chad (Nicole) Kandow,
Corey Kandow, Kristin (Michael) Glentz,
Casey (Lindsay) Kandow, Cody (Danielle) Kania, Joshua Kania,
Jordan Claus, Carly Claus, Travis Claus, and Lindsey Claus;
12 great grandchildren;
2 sisters, Betty Raniszewski of Detroit and Emily Wilk of Posen;
1 brother, Stanley (Dorothy) Kania of Flint.

He was preceded in death by:
4 sisters, Agnes Fryske, Mary Weiss, Helen Idziak, and Verna Bauman;
3 brothers, Phil, Eugene, and Leo.

Friends may visit at the Beck Funeral Home on Sunday from 3:00 until 8:00 p.m.
where Sr. Rita Epple will conduct the parish wake service at 7:00 p.m.
Visitation will resume on Monday at St. Dominic Catholic Church from 10:00 a.m.
through time of mass at 11:00 a.m. with Fr. Arthur Duchnowicz and Sr. Rita Epple
officiating. Rogers City VFW will accord full military honors following mass.

Burial will take place in St. Dominic Catholic Cemetery

Memorials Memorials may be given to Hospice of the Sunrise Shore or
St. Dominic Catholic Church in memory of Edward Kania.
