Eleazer Arnett1927 - 2011
Eleazer Edgar “Ed” Amett age 84 of Benton Township
passed away May 3, 2011 at Golden Beach Manor
He was born April 27, 1927 in Jackson, Michigan
to Clarence and Wilma (Durkee) Arnett
E. Edgar Amett used to walk his little sister (Lorena Dalton proceeded him in death)
to school on a little dirt road in Addison, Michigan. Edgar’s birth was celebrated on
April 27, 1927 in Jackson, Michigan. During WWII, he served with the
United States Navy in Japan. After returning, he dedicated himself to his two
life-long passions: Alice Arnett (who lives in Cheboygan, Michigan) and airplanes.
In 1947, he received his private pilot’s license, and in 1948, he married his biggest
adventure. After that, he and Alice resided in both Manitou Beach and Cheboygan.
In 1948, he attended barber school in Hamtramck, MI and later opened his own
barber shop in Manitou Beach. His daughters, Mary Denise Amett of East Lansing
and Deborah Kay Arnett Kidder of Utah, have memories of when he would close up
shop and take them hunting, fishing and flying.
In 1977, he graduated from Michigan State Police School for the Cheboygan
Sheriff Department; he was instrumental in developing both the Marine and
Snowmobile division for the County. He later transferred to the Mackinaw County
Sheriff Department to serve on Bois Blanc Island.
An avid private pilot, fisherman, hunter, and snowmobiler, he loved to include his
five grandchildren (Jaime Sears – NYC, Ryan Sears – East Lansing,
Zachery Kidder – Midland, Jessica Kidder – Vermont, Dylan Kidder – Utah) in his
adventures – teaching them to keep their eyes on the horizon. The memory of his
life will be shared with his five great-grandchildren.
On Friday, May 6th, the family will greet friends from 12 pm – 2 pm at
Mulligan’s Restaurant in Cheboygan.
