Elizabeth Grigg

1918 - 2012

Elizabeth (Betty) Georgina Grigg, 94, of Rogers City
died October 19, 2012 at her home.

Betty was born April 15, 1918 in Detroit
to Dr. Daniel and Olivia Clarke.

She graduated from Cooley High School in Detroit. She then attended Pennsylvania
College for Women and graduated from Wayne State University with a teaching
degree. She married Norman Grigg September 12, 1945. He preceded her in death
in 1969,

Betty taught Kindergarten and first grade in Rogers City for many years and was
loved and respected by her students. Many kept in contact with her throughout the
years. Betty was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt,
sister and friend. She was a positive, loving influence to her family and friends.
Each of us felt blessed to have her in our life. She had a gift of making each person
feel special. Betty will be deeply missed.

She found delight in nature and family, traveling on many Audubon (bird) trips to
Maine, Arizona, Manitoba and Florida. She loved traveling to Cape Cod with her
family, enjoying the beaches, birds and seafood. Betty also enjoyed local birding
outings and belonged to the local Audubon society. She especially liked hosting the
Rogers City Christmas Bird Count and participating in the count with her son, Bill.
She hosted the Christmas count for forty years.Betty loved feeding the birds and
observing changes of each season. She especially loved going on country rides,
looking for birds and wildflowers, and enjoying the beauty of nature.

Betty’s pride and joy were her family. She was a glowing example to her family on
how to live a good life. Her positive attitude, her smile, and her encouragement and
love are etched in our hearts forever.

Betty is survived by:
her son, Bill (Laurie) of Rogers City;
a daughter, Laura (Elmer) Tofteland of Mt. Pleasant;
grandchildren, Kelli (Gino) Marino, Jamie Grigg, Kari (Scott) Grulke,
Erik, Becky and Brian Tofteland;
great-grandchildren, Gavin, Garrett and Olivia Marino, Noah Kalis and Liam Grulke.

She is also survived by nieces, Betty Smolinski and Pam MacFalda and their families.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Patricia; and brother, Daniel.

Beck Funeral Home handled the arrangements. There was a private memorial service
for family.
