Elizabeth Zimmer
1940 - 2014Elizabeth A, “Betty” Zimmer age 74 of Rogers City
died November 18, 2014 at Rogers City Tendercare.
She was born October 16, 1940 in Rogers City
to Anthony and Marjorie (Greka) Kowalski.
During her lifetime Betty had many talents and careers, Best loved for her
poetry with many poems printed in newspapers, as well as in her five
books, She wrote a poem in tribute of John F, Kennedy after his
assassination, this poem is in the Congressional Library. She worked as a
bartender for her grandfather, Leo Greka, as well as in the International
and Rainbow Lounge. After some years she sailed with the Great Lakes
Freighters in the galley as a cook. Once on the shore again, she and
husband Jerry owned and operated the Nautical City Cab for 20 years.
Betty held the position of Secretary/Treasurer for the Shipmasters Lodge
19 in Alpena. Later she joined the Red Hat Society, Frolicking Rubies
Chapter, Aside from cooking she enjoyed growing flowers of every kind
and having holiday and birthday parties at her house. She will be
remembered as a loving mother, daughter, and friend to many; but her
claim to fame would be her works of poetry that will forever echo into
the vastness of heaven,
Betty is survived by:
3 children, Andrea (Matt) Mosley, Lynn (Dave) Altman, and
Robert Wojtaszek;
5 grandchildren, Luke, Grace, Hannah, Brian (Kelly), and Samantha;
1 great grandson, Cameron;
1 brother, Butch (Candace) Kowalski,
She was preceded in death by:
her loving husband, Jerry on October 12, 2008;
son, Jeffrey Wojtaszek;
sister, Rose Wagner,
several aunts and cousins.
Friends may visit at the Beck Funeral Home on Friday from 3:00 until
8:00 p.m. with rosary at 6:30 followed by parish wake service at 7:00 p.m.
Visitation will resume at St, Ignatius Catholic Church on Saturday from
9:00 a.m, through time of Mass at 10:00 a.m. with Fr. Sylvestre Obwaka
officiating.
Memorials may be given to St. Ignatius Catholic School,
St. Ignatius Church, or Hospice of Michigan in memory of Betty Zimmer.
