Ellen Furtaw

1929 - 2015

Ellen Marie Furtaw went home to the Lord on Wednesday, May 27, 2015
from Orchard Care Home in Posen, She was 85 years old.

Ellie was born October 21, 1929 in Rogers City
to Clarence and Anna (Dullack) Furtaw.

She attended St. Ignatius School and Rogers City High School. After
graduation from high school, Ellen worked for Rogers City Broadcasting
Corporation (WHAK and WHSB) from 1949 to 1969, and worked for
Michigan Limestone Corporation, Great Lakes Fleet USS from 1969 to
1986. She retired in 1986.
Ellie was a member of the Rogers City Housing Authority when Hilltop
Manor was built. She later served as President of the Authority. She also
served as Secretary of the Board of Directors for Rogers City Broadcasting
Corporation.

She was a life-long member of St. Ignatius Catholic Church and its Rosary
Society, and a former member of the St. Ignatius adult choir. She was a
woman of great faith who devoted much of her time to helping at church.
Ellie enjoyed reading, walking, gardening and yard work, music and being
with family and friends.

Ellie is survived by:
one sister, Sr. Marilyn Furtaw, R.S.M. of Farmington Hills,
one brother, Richard (Mary) Furtaw of Rogers City;
2 sisters-in-law, Lois Furtaw of Rogers City and
Ethel Furtaw of Windsor, Ontario;
nieces, Carol (John) Killey of Bay City, Holly Furtaw of Winsor, Ontario,
Mary Chapdelaine of Charlevoix, Kathy Furtaw of Gaylord,
Patty Furtaw of Boyne City and Ann (Joe) Solomon of Charlevoix;
nephews, Bryn (Ann) Furtaw of Windsor, Ontario,
Charles Furtaw of Gonzales, California,
Larry (Linda) Furtaw of Portage and
Michael (Linda) Furtaw of Alpena;
grand nieces and nephews including Emily Chapdelaine, Hannah Solomon,
Evan Solomon and Matthew Solomon, all of Charlevoix.

She was preceded in death by:
her parents, Clarence and Anna;
one sister, Marianne MacKenzie,
five brothers, Clarence Jr., Edward, Raymond, William and Charles;
two sisters-in-law, Myra Furtaw and Ednah Lou Furtaw; and
one brother-in-law, Robert MacKenzie.

Friends may visit at St. Ignatius Catholic Church on Tuesday, June 2, 2015
from 10:00 a.m, until time of Mass at 11:00 a.m. with Fr. Donald Geyman
officiating.

Inurnment will take place at Memorial Park Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to
St. Ignatius Catholic School.
