Ernest Silverthorn
1921 - 2010Dr. Emest C. Silverthorn age 89 of Rogers City
passed away November 7, 2010 at his winter residence
in Shelby Township
He was born February 20, 1921 in Harrisville
to Ermest and Nora (Green) Silverthorn
Dr. Silverthorn and his wife, Meta, were married for 66 years and raised their family in
Royal Oak, Michigan. He was a lieutenant with the U.S. Navy during World War II
serving aboard the U.S.S, Oklahoma City. He was an optometrist practicing in
Royal Oak, Michigan for 37 years before retiring to Grand Lake, Michigan in 1983.
In recent years the couple made their home in Rogers City. He was a past president
and member of the Royal Oak Lions Club for many years and also served as a
deacon with the Westminster Presbyterian Church in Rogers City.
Dr. Silverthorn is survived by:
wife, Meta;
5 children, Ernest III (Merry), Susan (Gary) Roosa, Scott (Deanna),
Linda (Donald) Gottschalk, and Jeffery;
14 grandchildren;
4 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and 3 sisters
His memorial service is set for 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 27th at
Westminster Presbyterian Church with Dr. Robert Case officiating.
Military honors will be accorded at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly on
Friday, November 26th at 2:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers the family has requested that memorials be made to the
Westminster Presbyterian Church of Rogers City, the American Cancer Society or
a Hospice organization of the donor’s choice.
