Eugene Brege

Eugene Brege

1939 - 2026

Eugene Lee Brege age 87 of Moltke passed away unexpectedly at home on Friday, February 27, 2026.

He was born in Moltke Township on February 11, 1939, to John and Martha (Schaedig) Brege.

Gene graduated from Rogers City High School with honors in 1956. He then served two years in the United States Army, stationed much of that time in Alaska. Upon returning home, he married his high school sweetheart, Mayreen Redes, and they were blessed with 65 years of marriage. Gene spent his life farming and was known for his hard work ethic and kindness to all. He loved to reminisce and was always ready with a picture and a (very detailed) story. Those close to him also knew him for his sense of humor and quick wit; never knowing when he would make a home movie, break out with a tune on the piano and harmonica, or catch you off guard with his “special smile” (if you know, you know).

He is survived by his loving wife, Mayreen; five children, Mark (Cindi) Brege of Prudenville, Shari (Mark) Pomranke of Ocqueoc, Scott (Shannon) Brege of Moltke, Holly (Jim) Campa of Cheboygan and Heidi (Ralph) Tulgestke of Moltke; 18 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren and two more on their way; and a sister-in-law, Peggy Redes of Rogers City.

Gene was preceded in death by his parents and all seven siblings.

Friends may visit at the Beck Funeral Home on Tuesday, March 3rd from 5-7 p.m. with a prayer service at 6:30 p.m. Visitation will resume on Wednesday at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Moltke from 10 a.m. until time of his funeral at 11 a.m. with Pastor Joseph Bangert officiating.

Interment will take place at Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery.

Memorials may be given to Immanuel Lutheran Church in memory of Eugene Brege.
