Floyd Redes

Floyd Charles Redes age 95 of Rogers City passed away April 12, 2025, at the home of his son Daniel in Cadillac surrounded by his family.

He was born June 28, 1929 in Grosse Pointe Woods to Curt and Helen (Gabriel) Redes.

Floyd graduated from Grosse Point High School in 1947. On January 18, 1950 he married Margaret Spei.

Floyd is survived by his wife of 75 years, Margaret Redes; four sons, Daniel (Nancy) Redes, Gary (Phyllis) Redes, Clifford (Christine) Redes and Steven (Lori) Redes; 11 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; his sister, Mayreen (Gene) Brege; sister-in-law, Grace Spei; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Curt and Helen; mother-in-law Margaret Wallenwine and a brother-in-law, Richard Spei.

Floyd moved north to the Rogers City area in 1952. He started the first Mercury outboard motor dealership in northern Michigan at the Hammond Bay Trading Post. He then had the opportunity to begin working at the Michigan Limestone Operations Calcite plant in 1952. Floyd worked there for 32 years and finished his career supervising the maintenance department. He was known for his engineering and mechanical aptitude. Floyd and Peggy had many adventures and recently celebrated their 75th wedding anniversary. They enjoyed many summers at their cottage at Black Lake. After retirement they spent 10 winters on a 34-foot Mainship, CHRIS-DI-LEE II. A major accomplishment was completing “the Great Loop” with the CHRIS-DI-LEE II. Floyd and Peg also enjoyed camping with friends and family in their fifth wheel both in Alabama and at Camp Pet-O-Se-Ga near Petoskey. Floyd was instrumental in the development of the Rogers City Country club and served on its board of directors. He was proud of the physical changes that took place over time. Especially the cart bridge at hole number 3. A story we often heard in recent months. He passed on his love of Springer Spaniels, hunting, fishing and water sports to his children, grandchildren and now great grandchildren. He and his sense of humor will be greatly missed. His was a life lived well.

Friends may visit at Westminster Presbyterian Church on Thursday, April 24th from 10 a.m. through time of his funeral at 11 a.m. with Rev. Karen and Rev. Dr. Greg Zurakowski officiating.

Interment will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.

His family is grateful for all the Hospice workers who attended to Floyd this past month.
