Gale Simmons
1930 - 2010Gale F. Simmons age 79 of Rogers City
passed away October 11, 2010 at Golden Beach Manor
He was born December 1, 1930 in Simmons Settlement
in the Upper Peninsula to Dorus and Lydia (Lee) Simmons
Gale lived in Cedarville for many years, before moving to Rogers City for
his job with US Steel. He served in the United States Navy from 1948
through 1950. He worked for US Steel for 32 years and was active in the
Masonic Lodge, Kiwanis, and the German American Club. Gale made and
painted many of the signs around Rogers City. He enjoyed R.V.ing across
the country for 26 years with his wife Bobbie. They enjoyed playing music
with friends and on stage. He loved playing his button box accordion and
drawing characterizations of the folks they met. He sang with the
Barber Shoppers, loved bird hunting, fishing, and sailing in the
North Channel with his friends, the Tassiers. He also enjoyed hiking the
back country of Arizona. Mr. Simmons loved to dance and have fun. He
will be deeply missed by his family and all those whose lives he touched.

wife, Roberta;
children, Gayla (Joc) Brief of Traverse City,
Dan (Gail) Simmons of Seattle, Washington,
David (Monica) Simmons of Traverse City,
Kellie Krage of Alpena,
Kay Lynn (Roy) Gunther of Minnesota,
Kaarina (Greg) Veihl of Onaway, and
Kyle Krage of Rogers City;
grandchildren, Chris, Doug, Nikolas, Kelsey, Anders, Adam, Joc, Melissa,
Bill, Kanisha, Danielle, Erin, Ashton, Lain, and John; and
9 great grandchildren
Mr. Simmons was preceded in death by:
his parents, Dorus and Lydia, and
sister, Shirley (Keith) Landerville
Friends may visit the Beck Funeral Home on Friday, October 15th from
1:00 p.m. through time of his memorial service at 2:00 p.m. with
Pastor Floyd Lamorcaux officiating. Rogers City VFW will offer a
military tribute following the service.
Inurnment will take place in the Rockview Cemetery in Pickford on
Saturday, followed by a gathering of family and friends in Cedarville.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to your local Hospice
in memory of Gale Simmons.
