Garry Bowen

Garry D. Bowen, age 73, of Cheboygan,
passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 21, 2014
in Petoskey, Michigan.

Garry was born in Cheboygan on Sept. 9, 1941
to Ralph and Stacia (Goodrich) Bowen.

In 1959, he graduated from Cheboygan High School and enlisted in the
U.S. Navy, where he served as a photographer’s mate on the
U.S.S. Shangri-La,

He earned a bachelor’s degree in Earth Sciences from Central Michigan
University in 1971. Shortly after, he was hired by the Department of
Defense as a systems analyst for the U.S. Army. He was a recipient of
the Superior Civilian Service Award for his work in logistics.

Garry enjoyed golfing in his retirement, as well as photography, reading,
woodworking and writing poetry.

Surviving family include:
siblings, Carla (Jim) McClure of Columbus, Mich.,
Roger (Joan) Bowen of Charleston, South Carolina and
Rebecca (Lee) Lund of Cheboygan;
daughters, Michelle (Scott) Stamper of Taylorsville, Kentucky and
Jennifer (Martin) Wojnar of Royal Oak, Mich.;
grandchildren, David Holmes, Preston Holmes and Dylan Burkhart;
three great-grandchildren; and
his dear friend, Audrey Urbanczyk of Washington, D.C.

A memorial service will be announced.
