Gary Lamb

1938 - 2024

Gary Alan Lamb, 85, of Rogers City, passed away peacefully on June 21, 2024, at Medilodge of Rogers City, with his wife, Barbara, faithfully at his side.

Gary was born October 24, 1938, in Alpena to Harold and G. Alice Lamb.

Gary graduated from Rogers City High School in 1956 and attended Michigan Technological University in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan. Gary then sailed on the USS freighters out of Calcite Harbor. In 1959 Gary married his high school sweetheart and love of his life Barbara Ann Klingshirn. Gary worked as a Game Warden for the Michigan DNR, based in Charlevoix. And then following in his father’s footsteps, Gary began his career as a successful commercial fisherman. He retired from commercial fishing in 1987, at the age of 49, and moved to Cape Coral, Florida where he and Barb took up crab fishing as a hobby to fulfill his need to be on the water. They later moved back to Rogers City for the remainder of their retirement years. Gary and Barb celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary earlier this year.

They had 5 children: Melissa Keathley of Texas, Vickie Lamb of Montana, Carla (Tim) Schaedig of Marquette, Kristin Casey of Kalamazoo, and David (Kari Claus) of Florida. They were also blessed with 10 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.

Outside his love for fishing, Gary – nicknamed Buck/Buckshot, was an avid outdoorsman and hunter.  He also enjoyed the game of golf and spending time with his family, who all shared in his adventurous spirit. Gary and Barb traveled often and ultimately to 49 states and several countries, including Ireland. Gary was loved by his family and all who knew him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Lynwood, and daughter Melissa.

Later in life, Gary converted to the Catholic faith and became a member of St. Ignatius Church in Rogers City.

A graveside service will be held at Mt. Calvary Catholic Cemetery on Saturday, July 20, 2024, at 1:30 pm.

Immediately following the service a Celebration of Life will be held at the Schaedig house at 1315 Forest Avenue, Rogers City (near Seagull Point). All family and friends are welcome.
