Gerald Burns1932 - 2009
Burns, Gerald Edward, 77, of Standish, formerly of
Hawks, Michigan, passed away peacefully, surrounded by
his family on September 8, 2009 at Saint Mary’s Hospital
in Saginaw, Michigan.
Jerry was born on April 24, 1932. He grew up in the Standish area before enlisting
in the Army when he was 17 years old to serve in the Korean War. Jerry was a
decorated, disabled veteran, and was proud to serve his country. He was married to
Elizabeth (Tippett) Burns for over 50 years; she preceded him in death almost three
years ago. They resided outside of Rogers City where they enjoyed their five
children, eighteen grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
After grieving the loss of his first wife, Jerry found renewed happiness with his
second wife, Eileen (Wyatt) Burns of Standish. They were blessed with two
wonderful years of marriage.
Jerry enjoyed playing the guitar, motorcycling, camping, hunting, fishing and
spending time with his family. He was a great adventurer and enjoyed making
everyone laugh with his wonderful “truc” stories. Jerry was a committed follower
of Christ and even though his family is saddened by his passing, they rejoice in
knowing they will see him again!
He is survived by:
his wife Eileen,
his five children; son, Ronald, his wife Nancy and three sons; Craig, Jeremy, and
daughter Vicki, husband Daniel Bedford, and three children;
Daniel, Summer, and Sarah;
son Michael and his three children; Diana, Jennifer, Jonathan;
daughter Kathy, her husband Craig Born, and three children;
Alexandra, Nicholas, Taylor;
daughter Robin, husband Aaron Bruski, and five children; Ashley,

and two great grandchildren; Samantha and Jack.
Preceding him in death was his granddaughter Michelle Burns.
