Gerald Kandow
1931 - 2012Gerald Kandow age 81 of Grand Lake
passed away May 29, 2012 at home
He was born February 2, 1931 in Rogers City
to Alex and Martha (Kapala) Kandow
Gerald served in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict.
On December 30, 1953 he married his high school sweetheart, Alice Kowalski
at St. Ignatius Catholic Church. Mr. Kandow retired in June of 1989 from the
Flushing Public Schools after 30 years of service. He was a member of
St. Casimir Catholic Church, Posen VFW Post 7804, and Michigan
Association of Retired School Personnel (MARSP). He enjoyed fishing,
hunting, gardening, and making wood crafts.
Gerald is survived by:
his wife;
5 children, Noreen (Jimmie) Patterson of Swartz Creek,
Randal (Suzette) Kandow of Clio,
Nancy (Doug) Gwinn of Flushing,
Timothy (Angelica) Kandow of Howell, and
Todd Kandow of Manchester;
10 grandchildren,
1 step-granddaughter;
8 great grandchildren;
3 step-great grandchildren;
2 sisters, Virginia Rosmys of Rogers City and Germaine Wenderlich of Livonia
He was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Arthur and Chester.
Friends may gather at St. Casimir Catholic Church on Monday, June 4th from
10:00 a.m. through time of his Memorial Mass at 11:00 a.m. with
Fr. Arthur Duchnowicz officiating. Posen VFW will accord full military honors
during graveside services at St. Casimir Catholic Cemetery following mass.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Hospice of Michigan,
St. Casimir Catholic Church, or the American Lung Association
in memory of Gerald Kandow.
