Gerald Pond

1949 - 2021

Gerald (Jerry) Ernest Pond

Jerry, as he was known to most people, was born in Cheboygan on 12/29/1948 and he “walked on” 11/22/2021 at the age of 72.

Jerry started at the Cheboygan Daily Tribune as a paperboy, and worked there for decades, easily handling the responsibility of photographing the large and small events in Cheboygan, making sure the paper was printed each day. Around the same he started his own professional photography business; his daughter Debbie was born to Mary Rocheleau. You know you have lived in Cheboygan, if Jerry Pond took your wedding, senior or family reunion photos. He was the community photographer for over 50 years.

Jerry was an avid hunter and marksman, loving his time in the woods, as well as his 30+ year involvement with the Michigan Rifle & Pistol Association at Camp Grayling. He was also very proud of his Mackinac Bands Native American heritage, and he was a true storyteller. Jerry was a local historian. He had knowledge that could only come from a lifetime of observation, exploration, and connection to the community.

Jerry is survived by his daughter Debbie Pond (Lena), sister Sharon Daniels, sister Rosemary Barrette (Lenny), nieces and nephews, and his beloved pets Ruger and Kimi.

A celebration of life will happen in the spring.

Those who wish are asked to consider memorial contributions in his memory to McLaren Hospice House of Cheboygan or Cheboygan County Veterans Memorial Park.
