Gordon Cordes
1942 - 2023Gordon William Cordes age 80 of Hillman passed away peacefully at home on January 2, 2023.
He was born August 16, 1942 in Hillman to Ernest and Marie (Edgar) Cordes.
Gordon is survived by his wife, Darlene; three children, Gordon Jr. “Gordie” (Valerie) Cordes of Hillman, Nancy (Walter Hickey) Kinn of Hillman and Bryan (Darlene A.) Cordes of Atlanta; six grandchildren, Gordon Cordes III “Bill”, Felicia (Justin) Cumper, Daniel Kinn, Tiffany (Hunter) Linesman; Patrick Cordes and Nicholas Cordes; two great granddaughters, Amelia Cumper and Averi Cumper; sister, Geraldine (Alan Sheen) Lightfoot; brother-in-law, Robert Melvin; sister-in-law, Ruth Grossman; brother-in-law, Arthur “Bud” Adrian; special children, Harry (Tina) Cordes and Patricia Cordes; special grandchildren, Harvey E. Cordes, Steven Cordes and Jacob Cordes; as well as many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Marie; his uncle and aunt who raised him, Paul and Edna Barke; two grandchildren, Charles and Anna; three siblings, Evelyn Melvin, Erving “Joe” (Elizabeth) Cordes and Harry (Carol) Cordes; a son-in-law, Leonard Kinn; three brothers-in-law, Howard Karsten, and Edward (Shirley) Karsten Jr. and William Grossman; and a sister-in-law, Janice Adrian.
Gordon graduated from Hillman High School in 1961. On November 21, 1964 he married Darlene Jean Karsten at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Moltke. He was a real estate agent and a machinist. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing cards, and especially playing spitzer. Most of all Gordon loved spending time with family and friends.
Friends may visit at St. John Lutheran Church in Royston on Thursday from 3-8 p.m. with a prayer service at 7 p.m. visitation will continue at church on Friday from 10 a.m. until time of his funeral at 2 p.m. with Pastor Jason Mandley officiating.
Interment will take place at St. John Lutheran Cemetery.
Memorials may be given to St. John Lutheran Cemetery “Well Fund” in memory of Gordon Cordes.
