1931 - 2011Herbert Alfred Summers age 79 of Rogers City
passed away April 12, 2011 at home
He was born August 9, 1931 in Cordin, Oklahoma
to John and Anne Viola (York) Summers
Herb retired as a Sergeant 7 from the United States Army in 1967 after the
Korean War and serving 2 tours as an American Scout with the South Vietnamese
Military. He retired from the Chrysler Corporation on December 31, 1993 and also
served on the Ferndale Police Department Auxiliary for 20 years, On July 2, 1983
he married Linda Bellmore-Felax in Troy. Herb and Linda moved to Rogers City in
1994. Mr. Summers was an active member of the Onaway VFW Post 5857, a member
of Peace Lutheran Church, American Legion, P.I. Sportsman’s Club, NRA, and the
Tea Party. Herb was an avid hunter and fisherman, he enjoyed whittling canes with
his pocket knife, from certain trees that he would search out. Grandpa always had a
real life story to share with his grandchildren and other young friends. Herb and his
faithful companion of 12 years, Mudd, an American Water Spaniel, passed naturally
on the same day.
He is survived by:
wife, Linda;
6 children, Frank (Diane) Summers of Macomb, Robert of Rogers City,
Jesse (Deb) Summers of Chesterfield Township,
Allen G. Felax of Lake Orion, Michelle Lowe of Hazel Park, and
Kristin (Marti) Slabiak of Hazel Park;
20 grand children, Kristen, Brian, Paige, Brittany, Derek, Jessica, Stephanie, Luke,
Misti, Steven, Matt, Emily, Jamie, Jenna, Rachel, Brittani, Lance,
Kayleigh, Megan, and (Kennedy Alexis);
4 great grandchildren, Devin, Haylee, Tyler, and Austin;
1 brother, James O. (Cornelia) Summers of Harlem, Georgia;
2 sisters Thelma Langwasser of Heath, Ohio and Loretta McGuire of Grand Blanc.

Pastor Kevin Jones will conduct his memorial service at Peace Lutheran Church on
Friday, May 6th at 1:00 p.m.. Onaway VFW will accord full military honors during
graveside services at Peace Lutheran Cemetery.
In licu of flowers, memorials may be given to Onaway VFW Post 5857,
Peace Lutheran Church, or Hospice of the Sunrise Shore in memory
of Herbert Summers.
