Howard Gilbertson

Howard LaVern Gilbertson, age 79, of Douglas Lake,
passed away peacefully surrounded by family
September 29, 2017 at McLaren Northern Michigan
Hospital in Petoskey.

He was born June 10, 1938 in Menasha, Wisconsin
to LaVern and Jeanette (Torkelson) Gilbertson

Howard married Margaret Caldwell on December 16, 1961 in Dunkirk,
Indiana, Together they owned the Hobby World in Appleton, Wisconsin.
Howard and Margaret retired to Douglas Lake in 1994, They were
married for 53 years. He enjoyed outdoor activities including boating,
fishing, birding and hiking in Utah, Arizona and surrounding states.
Howard loved spending time with his family and his many friends.

He will be remembered for his witty sense of humor, his warm, loving,
caring personality and his Douglas Lake Manhattans.

Howard is survived by:
2 children, Thor (Mallory) Gilbertson of Wisconsin and
Kathryn Gilbertson of Rhode Island; and
his 2 grandchildren, Taylor and Christopher.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret on October 19, 2015.

In licu of flowers, memorials may be given to Tip of the Mitt Watershed
Council or Little Traverse Conservancy in memory of Howard Gilbertson.

A gathering to celebrate Howard’s life will take place at a later date.
