James Kennard

James Frederick Kennard age 91 of Hillman passed away December 25, 2023.

He was born February 24, 1932 in Detroit to David and Philomena (Johnston) Kennard.

On June 26, 1954 he married Patricia Cadieux at St. Augustine Catholic Church. He worked at Aulsbrook Furniture Company in Detroit for several years before moving to Hillman in 1955. Jim was a co-owner of Dave and Jim’s Pizzeria in Alpena for over 15 years. It is said, they introduced pizza to Northern Michigan. Jim enjoyed over 60 years of fishing trips to Canada. He was involved with coaching softball and boxing in the Hillman area. Jim was a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church.

Jim is survived by his wife, Patricia; eight children, Dan Kennard, James (Kathy) Kennard, Joseph (Susan) Kennard all of Hillman, Thomas (Dawn) Kennard of Lake Orion, Teresa (Randel) Elowsky of Hillman, Judith (John) Zawacki of Alpena, Mary (Randy) Stiver and Jacqueline Kennard of Cadillac; 33 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandson.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother David (Ann) Kennard; a daughter-in-law, Tam Kennard.

Friends may visit at St. Augustine Catholic Church on Friday, December 29^th from 4-7 p.m. with Rosary at 6:30. Visitation will continue at church on Saturday from 9 a.m. until time of Mass at 10 a.m. with Fr. James Siler officiating.

Burial will follow at St. Augustine Catholic Cemetery.

Memorials may be given to the Fr. Solanus Casey Chapel at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Hillman.
