by loved ones on June 30th, 2010 at Golden Beach Manor.

Born August 3, 1918 to Arthur and Mary Aikens in Onaway, Michigan, Jean was the
granddaughter of Thomas and Elizabeth Shaw, Onaway’s original settlers back in
1881. She graduated from Onaway High School and from County Normal, and in
1937 began teaching at the Bell School (near Presque Isle Harbor) and later at the
Hawks School.

Rev. S.J. Francis joined Jean and Donald McLennan in marriage on June 25, 1938 in
Rogers City, where they then made their home for almost 70 years.

Jean was a faithful worshipper at the Westminster Presbyterian Church and was a very
active Circle member, as well as a Life Member of the Order of the Eastern Star.
After raising her family, she worked for many years as a teacher’s aide in the Rogers
City Elementary School where she loved and cared for many children. She was a
great fan of the Detoit Tigers, and would often be found watching a ball game while
pursuing her passion for knitting. Many were the sweaters, slippers and dishcloths
that she lovingly crafted and gave away over the ycars.

Jean is survived by:
four daughters and three sons, Beth (Arthur) Getzinger, Lee (Robert) Bingle,
Donald (Julie) McLennan, and Scott McLennan
of Rogers City;

nieces and nephews, her special McDonald’s friends, and all those who loved her at
Golden Beach Manor.

Preceding her in death was:
her husband, Donald;
her brother, Cameron Aikens;
her sisters, Lois Janct Brege and Ruth Ashton; and
her grandchildren, Shelley L. Petz and Jay A. Getzinger

Friends and family will gather for a memorial service at 11:00AM on
