Jerry Smith
1940 - 2023Jerry Lee Smith age 80 of Millersburg passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, November 9, 2023 while in the arms of his loving wife Linda.
Jerry was born in Attica, Michigan in 1943 and grew up on the family farm.
After graduating from Imlay City High School, he attended MSU graduating in 1970 with a degree in Parks and Recreation. After graduation, he enjoyed working for the DNR State Parks for 28 Years, retiring in 1997. Hoeft State Park held a special place in his heart. After retirement, he volunteered with Headwaters Land Conservancy for many years. Jerry considered himself a craftsman, not an artist, where he designed
many unique wooden items including mirrors and rattles, however, he was best known for his unique boxes made from Shipwreck Oak and other woods.
Jerry met and married the love of his life, Linda in 1991. They enjoyed many years together camping, hiking, traveling, enjoying friends and family, and accumulating a lot of great memories. Jerry will be greatly missed by many.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Gordan Smith and Velma Young Smith, and his brother, Robert “Bob” Smith.
Jerry is survived by his wife, Linda; his son, Michael (Michelle); and his sister, Margaret Milz; Sister-in- law, Suzanne Henry. Jerry is also survived by three grandchildren, Bret (Jamie), Rachel, and Joshua, along with one great grandson and a great granddaughter, who will make her debut in December.
Friends may visit at the Beck Funeral Home on Sunday from 2 p.m. through time of his funeral at 4 p.m.
A luncheon and time of fellowship will follow in the San Luis Rey Room.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Friends of Hoeft State Park for a park bench in memory of Jerry Smith or Headwaters Land Conservatory or to a charity of your choice.
