John Krage

1931 - 2023

John Edward Krage 92, passed peacefully into the arms of his Savior on July 14, 2023 surrounded by his family.

He was born March 25, 1931 in Grayling to William and Daisy (Roop) Krage.

John graduated from Grayling High School in 1949. He served as a proud Marine who saw combat in Korea from 1950-1953. When he returned home he attended Northern Michigan University in Marquette where he earned his teaching degree in 1958. He began his teaching and coaching career in Mackinaw from 1958-1960, then Cedarville from 1960-1969 then on to Onaway from 1969 until his retirement in 1991.

He enjoyed bicycling around the area, especially with his grandson as he got older. Yearly motorcycle trips were taken each June with friends around the US.

John was a devoted teacher and coach who touched many lives in a positive way through the years.

He is survived by his wife, Dianna; eight children, Kellie Krage of Kalamazoo, Kyle Krage, Kay Lynn (Don) Schnabel and Kaarina (Greg) Veihl of Tower, Todd (Gina) Elowsky, Melissa (Scott) Orr, Troy (Marie) Elowsky and Dawn Elowsky of Rogers City; 10 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; and dear friend – the brother he never had, Joe Evans.

John was preceded in death by his parents, William and Daisy; and sisters and brothers-in-law, Doris & Dwight Cooper and Evelyn & Arthur Decker.

A private graveside service will take place at St. John Lutheran Cemetery in Hagensville.

Memorials may be given to St. John Lutheran Church in Hagensville or to St. John Radio Fund in memory of John Krage.
