John VanMaele

John Maurice “Van” VanMaele age 68 of Rogers City passed away peacefully at home on Monday, June 12, 2023.

He was born February 2, 1955 in Warren to John and Rita (Stempien) VanMaele.

John proudly served in the U.S. Navy as a Navy diver. He was an avid fan of everything sports, particularly, his Florida State Seminoles and the Detroit Lions, no matter their record.

He is survived by his wife of 14 years Lisa; four children, Chad (Jen) Heckmann, Amber (Tom) Versosky, Sara VanMaele and Joe (fiancé Taylor) VanMaele; nine grandchildren; three siblings, Vince (Karen) Austin, Paula (Scott) Nix and Scott (Sue) Austin; five nieces and nephews; many cousins; and “daddy’s boy” Gunner, who never left his side.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John VanMaele and Rita and Donald Austin.

Friends may visit at the Beck Funeral Home on Friday, June 16^th from 4-8 p.m. where the American Legion Post 122 of Wolverine and the Riders Chapter 122 will accord full military honors at 5 p.m.

Visitation will resume on Monday at Mandziuk & Son Funeral Home, 3801 18 Mile Road, Sterling Heights, 48314 from 3-8 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday at St. Rene Goupil Catholic Church, 35955 Ryan Road, Sterling Heights, 48310.

Military honors and interment will take place at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly.
