Joy Karsten

Joy Viola Karsten age 88 of Moltke Township passed away on February 14, 2020 at McLaren Northern Michigan Hospital in Petoskey surrounded by her family.

She was born July 22, 1931 in Rogers City to Alfred and Eva (Woehlert) Boehmer.

On August 28, 1948 she married Walter Karsten Immanuel Lutheran Church in Moltke. Joy enjoyed spending time in her gardens and making quilts for Lutheran World Relief. Her greatest joy was spending time with her grandchildren, great grandchildren and family. She was always up for celebrations.

Mrs. Karsten is survived by two children, Jean (Ron) Horrocks of Onaway and Myron (Dianne) Karsten of Dewitt; three grandchildren, Amanda Karsten, Corrine (Tom) Richter and Brian (Sammy) Karsten; four great grandchildren, Lorenzo, Madaline, Brooklyn and Ava; and many nieces and nephews.

Joy was preceded in death by her husband, Walter on May 24, 2004; four brothers, Alfred Boehmer, John Boehmer, Val Boehmer and David Boehmer; four sisters, Ruth Boehmer, Dorothy Weeks, Elizabeth Sweeney and Esther Johnson.

Friends may visit at the Beck Funeral Home on Tuesday, February 18th from 5-8 p.m. with a prayer service at 7 p.m. Visitation will resume on Wednesday at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Moltke from 10 a.m. until time of her funeral at 11 a.m. with Pastor J. Derek Riddle officiating.

Burial will take place in the spring at Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery.

Memorials may be given to Immanuel Lutheran Church, St. John Lutheran School or McLaren Hospice in memory of Joy Karsten.
