Kevin Vachow1953 - 2013
Kevin Vachow, 60, of Mackinaw City,
passed away Saturday, July 6, 2013
after a hard fought battle with diabetes and its complications,
A life-long resident of Mackinaw City area, Kevin was born January 31, 1953,
the son of Leo and Jean Vachow.
Kevin, in his young adult years, was an avid photographer; with nature
photography being his specialty. Hunting and camping in Wilderness Park,
fishing in French Farm Lake, and tournament fishing in Carp Lake
were long-time hobbies.
He spent a number of years working the Mackinac Island boat business
primarily for Straits Transit / Arnold Line.
He then founded and operated a local painting business, ‘Whiter Shades
of Pale’, continuing that business until his health would not permit
He was an avid story teller with a great deal of humor mixed in all
the way to the end. He enjoyed going on weekend adventures with his family
when they were growing up.
In later life, Kevin performed as a board member for the Mackinaw Area
Historical Society; assisting in investigating and locating historical
buildings in rural Emmet County, being successful with the procurement
and moving of one of the building to the Historical Village site
across from the Headlands west of Mackinaw, He really enjoyed being a
part of this society.
Kevin is survived by:
his daughter Anna Vachow;
step children Sara (Brad) Mushlock, Joshua Feeley, Katy Feeley;
5 granddaughters, Hannah, Lilly, Emma, Ila , Ellory and
dear friends Peggy, Denny and Donna Beach and Greg and Vikkie Teysen and
He is also survived by:
his brothers Jim & (Danielle) Vachow, Jon & (Jacki)Vachow, and
sister Jo & (Larry) Kendall and
numerous nieces and two nephews and
many great nieces and nephews.
A gathering of friends has been set for Sunday August 11th, 2013, at 2:00 pm
at the Mackinaw City Historical Village.
