Lavern Bruder
1913 - 2008Lavern L. “Butch” Bruder age 94 of Rogers City passed away June 22, 2008
at Tendercare in Alpena.
He was born November 13, 1913 in the Village of Rogers City to
Rhinard and Rose (Grant) Bruder.
Butch married Mary Kowalski on December 31, 1938 at St. Ignatius
Catholic church. He was employed by U.S. Steel beginning in 1936 as a
coal passer on the B.H. Taylor and the T.W. Robinson. He continued
sailing on the White as a stokerman until 1959. Lavern then went to work
at the Calcite yard as a laborer. In 1960 he became a highline attendant
in the mill, then a tunnelman. In 1968 he began loading boats and retired
in 1975 as a boat leader. Mr. Bruder enjoyed spending time outdoors in his
garden, fishing, and traveling.
He is survived by:
brother, Allen (Fran) Bruder if Rogers City
special caring nephew, Herbert (Betty) Derry of Alpena,
several nieces and nephews
and was preceded in death by his wife, Mary, on July 7, 1993.
Friends may visit at the Beck Funeral Home on Tuesday (June 24) from
6:00 until 8:00 p.m. where the rosary will be recited at 6:30 followed by
the parish wake service at 7:00 p.m.
Visitation will resume on Wednesday at St. Ignatius Catholic Church from
10:00 a.m. until time of mass at 11:00 a.m. with Fr. Robbie Deka
officiating.
Interment will take place in Mt. Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to St. Ignatius Catholic School.
