Lawrence Karsten

1939 - 2016

Lawrence D. Karsten age 76 of Moltke Township
passed away at home on April 27, 2016.

He was born September 23, 1939 in Rogers City
to Adolph and Dorothea (Schaedig) Karsten.

Larry graduated from Rogers City High School in 1957. He graduated
from Michigan State University in 1962 with a Bachelor’s Degree in
Dairy Science, While at MSU he sang in the Glee Club. On July 25, 1964
he married Deanna Rieger at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Larry served in
the Army National Guard of Michigan; he was called into active duty
during the Detroit Riots in 1967, He owned and operated Karsten’s Dairy
Farm in Moltke Township. Mr. Karsten was an active member of St. John
Lutheran Church and its choir, He was a member of the Nauticals Barber
Shop Quartet and an active member of the Michigan Milk Producers
Association and the Farm Bureau.

Larry is survived by:
his wife, Deanna;
4 daughters, Jacqueline (Matthew) Quaine of Rogers City,
Dawn (Greg) Heinzel of Rogers City,
Robin (Joel) Idalski of Rogers City and
Keri Karsten of Maine;
10 grandchildren, David (Stephanie Lamas) Quaine, Patrick Quaine,
Megan Quaine, Alexa Quaine, Jeremy Karsten,
Lacey Karsten, Tyler (Christine) Idalski,
Brooklyn Idalski, Autumn Idalski and Braden Idalski,
2 great grandsons, Aiden Quaine and Kade Karsten,

He was preceded in death by:
his parents, Adolph and Dorothea;
2 brothers, Walter Karsten and Lewis Karsten
2 sisters, Doris Haneckow and Ethel Kreft;
step-mother, Lena Karsten,

Friends may visit at the Beck Funeral Home on Saturday from 4:00 until
8:00 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation resumes on Sunday
at St. John Lutheran Church in Rogers City from 2:00 p.m, through time
of funeral at 3:00 p.m. with Pastor Eric Voigt officiating. Rogers City
VFW will offer a military tribute immediately following the church
service,

Interment will take place at Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery
in Moltke Township.

Memorials may be given to: St. John Lutheran School;
St. John Radio Fund; Hospice of Michigan; or Martin Luther Chapel,
