Lawrence “Larry” Syrett

1938 - 2021

Lawrence Robert “Larry” Syrett age 82 of Rogers City passed away April 10, 2021 at MidMichigan Medical Center in Alpena.

He was born October 31, 1938 St. Louis, Missouri to Harold and Mary (Hartmann) Syrett.

Just out of high school Larry and several friends formed a band called “Paul New and the Crew”, they traveled the country playing in hotels and preforming shows playing dance music. After about 20 years of touring, Larry took a job with the St. Louis County Highway Department, following his retirement from there he moved to Rogers City. He was an active member of St. Ignatius Catholic Church and its choir. He enjoyed singing in the Barber Shop Quartet, “The Nauticals”. Larry loved telling the story of how his musical life began with a new guitar and the 4 lessons that it came with.

Larry is survived by his sister, Elaine (Edward) Cronin of Huntsville, Alabama.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Mary.

A graveside service will take place at Huntsville Memory Gardens in Huntsville, Alabama on Tuesday, April 20th at 1:00 p.m. with Fr. Anthony Vadakara conducting. A memorial Mass will take place at St. Ignatius Catholic Church in Rogers City at a later date.

Interment will take place in the family plot at Huntsville Memory Gardens.
