Leo Durecki

1936 - 2020

Leo John Durecki age 84 of Rogers City passed away July 14, 2020 at home.

He was born April 8, 1936 in Rogers City to Frank and Frances (Hincka) Durecki. Leo enlisted in the United States Airforce and served from July of 1954 untilJanuary of 1958. After spending time at home, he then enlisted in the United States Army during the Vietnam War, from April of 1964 until March of 1967. He married Sally Gorman on April 24, 1976 in Rogers City. Leo retired from the Rogers City Hospital in 1993. He was a life member of the Rogers City VFW Post 607. During his retirement, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, playing pinochle and picking mushrooms. He also enjoyed picking up a few scratch off tickets and playing the lotto.

Mr. Durecki is survived by his wife, Sally; children, Gregory (Vicki) Durecki of Wisconsin, Terry Durecki of Alaska, and Julie Sharrow of Detroit; three stepchildren, Charles (Kay) Hastings of Florida; Roger (Susan) Hastings of Chicago, and Kim (Ladd) Stone of Alpena; many grandchildren and several great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his son, Mark; all of his siblings, Helen McLean, Harry Durecki, Cecilia Bunner, Wally Durecki, and Fran Lenard.

Friends may visit at the Beck Funeral Home on Friday, July 17 th, beginning with theRosary at 9:30 a.m. followed by visitation until time of his funeral at 11 a.m. with Sr. Mary Michelz officiating. Rogers City VFW Post 607 will accord military honors immediately following.

Interment will take place at Mt. Calvary Catholic Cemetery.

Memorials may be given to St. Ignatius Catholic School’s Angel Fund or Hospice of Michigan in memory of Leo Durecki.
