Lewis Mayes
1931 - 2010Lewis E. Mayes age 79 of Long Lake
passed away September 14, 2010 at home
He was born September 14, 1931 in Rogers City
to Angus and Theresa (Polaski) Mayes
Lewis served in the United States Army as a Staff Sergeant during the Korea War and
received 2 Purple Heart Medals, When he returned home he married Rozella Selke at
St. Ignatius Catholic Church on January 10, 1953. Lewis retired from Michigan Cat
after 40 years of service and moved from Walled Lake to Long Lake in 1994. He
was a Life Member of Rogers City VF W Post 607 and a Life Member of the
DAV Chapter 114 in Livonia.
Mr. Mayes is survived by:
wife, Rozella;
4 children, Richele (Jack) Rowe of Hartland, Michael of Grand Ledge,
Jeffrey (Kathryn) of Rogers City, and Robert (Jamye) of Wixom;
4 grandchildren, Kyle Rowe, Carly Rowe, Jordan Mayes, and Kaytlin Mayes;
1 sister, Margaret Filipiak of Alpena; and
many nieces, nephews, and friends
Friends may visit the Beck Funeral Home on Saturday, September 25th from
1:00 p.m. through time of memorial service at 2:00 p.m. with Sr, Rita Epple
officiating. Rogers City VFW Post 607 will accord full military honors during the
service.
Inurnment will take place in Mt. Calvary Catholic Cemetery
Memorials may be given to Hospice of Michigan or Rogers City VFW Post 607 in
memory of Lewis Mayes.
