Linda Bedell

1943 - 2025

Linda Grace Bedell, age 81, of Cheboygan, Michigan passed away peacefully March 3, 2025 at her home.

She was born November 5, 1943 in Ann Arbor, Michigan to Max and Carol Peet.

She graduated from Ann Arbor Pioneer High School and attended Eastern Michigan University and Cleary College. She moved to Cheboygan in 1964 after spending summers there at her parent’s cottage on Mullett Lake.

Linda was a secretary for Cheboygan Area Schools for many years. She became great friends with many of her coworkers during her assignments throughout the school system including East Elementary, the School Board Office, the Bus Garage and Alternative Education.

Linda was very active in the community. She was a longtime member of St. Thomas Lutheran Church, had a strong faith and spent many years as secretary of the Church Council. Among the organizations that she was part of include Business and Professional Women, Northland Players, Roundabouts, multiple bridge clubs, Beginning Experience and the Coast Guard Auxiliary. During her time with the Coast Guard  Auxiliary, she earned several accreditations and made trips on the Coast Guard Cutter Mackinaw to various ports on Lake Huron and Lake Michigan. Linda also volunteered at the Opera House for several years.

To say that Linda loved to travel is an understatement. She could boast that she had been to all 50 states. Her travel outside the country included a trip through the Panama Canal, travel through much of Europe and very special trip to the Holy Land in Israel.

Although she was an avid traveler, it seemed that her favorite thing to do was spend time outside enjoying Mullett Lake. Hardly anything could persuade her to leave the lake for even an hour during the summer. She was an excellent water skier and boater and taught many people to water ski over the years.

The thing that really stood out about Linda was the relationships that she had with her many close and long-time friends. Her friends appreciated her genuine personality. She was considerate and fair-minded; told interesting stories with great detail and flair and had an extraordinary sense of humor. It’s impossible to express how much Linda and her wonderful friends meant to one another.

Linda is survived by children Kelly (Greg) Penfield and Andy (Zerrin) Bedell; grandchildren Max and Kaitlyn Penfield; sister Judith (Robert) Preston; several nieces and nephews, several grandnieces and nephews and even a great-grandniece niece (due in May).

A memorial service will be held at St. Thomas Lutheran Church in Cheboygan Saturday March 15th. Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM with the service at 11:00 AM and a luncheon to follow at the church.
